The Power of Embracing the Winter Solstice: A Journey Through Time, Light, and Darkness

The winter solstice signifies the year's longest night, emphasizing the contrast between light and darkness. It is a time for renewal and reflection, prompting us to light a candle, get cozy, and rest. Recently, I found myself in a prolonged state of waiting—anticipating results, information, appointments, and future steps. Often lying in darkness and watching the sunrise, I encountered this interplay of darkness and light, clarity, moments of joy, and, most importantly, the presence of light. Reflecting on this journey, the connection between time and light appears as a guiding force in our lives.

The Depths of Darkness

As the days grew shorter, I often felt surrounded by darkness. It wasn't merely about reduced daylight hours; it was about uncertainty, doubt, and a profound stillness. During one especially dreary week, when daylight spanned only about eight hours, each day seemed to blend into the next. The burden of waiting felt immense. I came to understand that the past year held significant lessons for me, especially during the Fall when I underwent surgery, and my routine was disrupted. I knew I needed to rest, but I didn't want to miss the bright and joyful moments of the day. As challenges arose and things became more difficult, I had to search for light in every small thing I could find. It was a constant dance between time, waiting, light, and darkness.

However, the darkness of nature plays a crucial role—it provides a period for rest and recovery. For example, numerous plants go dormant in winter to save energy for their growth in spring. Embracing this cycle was challenging as I faced my own period of waiting. I usually flourish on optimism, yet the prolonged stillness felt suffocating.

Ironically, the darkness came at the right time for me, as it forced me to rest and taught me to stop resisting. It guided me towards a more natural way of thinking and caring for myself, something I had always struggled with. This period of introspection made me realize that my health journey was teaching me valuable lessons about patience and self-compassion. I learned to appreciate the necessity of these quiet moments, understanding that they are essential for personal growth and renewal.

Seeking the Light

In the midst of darkness, I redirected my attention to light. I found myself yearning for it—not just physically, but also spiritually and emotionally. Light symbolizes hope, warmth, and growth. Studies indicate that exposure to natural light can enhance mood and boost energy levels; this understanding fueled my pursuit of brightness. In the past year, I had stopped practicing the reconnection with energy through light, prayer, and meditation. I wasn't engaging with something greater; instead, I was accessing my fading light, vibration, and intuition. On the infrequent occasions I practiced yoga, I was bypassing this crucial aspect of connection and spirituality to accommodate movement, but I now recognize how much I truly needed the connection with myself and my spirituality.

I started to find light through small, meaningful actions. Morning walks with my husband and dog became a daily ritual, a way to welcome the day and get some exercise. Some days, we didn't go very far, while other days, we took an extra step—even when the sun seemed shy, I searched for glimmers and walked with gratitude. I noticed beauty in small things: the way the sun shimmered on the lake, the hearts and peace signs someone had drawn in the sand, the aroma of coffee brewing in the kitchen, the flicker of a candle, or the laughter of my boys during cozy evenings. These small moments served as sparks, lighting my way through uncertainty.

The Dance of Time and Light

As the winter solstice neared this month, I became increasingly conscious of my connection with time. While waiting can seem motionless, it also possesses a distinct beauty. It's a time for introspection, development, and transformation. Reflect on this: during the past year of waiting, I gained important insights into patience and resilience. Each seemingly endless day in darkness taught me to appreciate the light when it arrived, and I understood that light is not merely something we await; it is something we actively seek. The most beautiful aspect is that no matter how bad a day is, how long a night is, or how dark things become in our minds and hearts, the sun rises the next day, and the light returns. It's free, it's certain, its life, and it's amazing.

Committing to the Light

Looking back on my journey over the past year, I am consistently reminded to embrace the light, even in difficult times. This commitment goes beyond simply seeking happiness; it's about finding light in moments of despair. Even in the depths of winter, the promise of a new year and the coming of spring remains. See how I did that? Focusing on the positive and not giving my energy to the darkness. I have practiced this many times over the past six months, and what I can tell you, my friends, is that it works. Directing your energy toward the positive and the light truly helps you heal. It's the essence of manifestation at its best, and cultivating goodness for yourself and others is all about recognizing that light and shining it where it's needed.

The Promise of Renewal

The winter solstice not only marks the peak of darkness but also the beginning of longer days ahead. Every year, the daylight increases by about two minutes each day after December 21. Just like nature, we too can transition from darkness to light.

Embracing renewal is essential as light returns. The new year feels like a blank slate. As I step into it, I carry the lessons learned during my waiting period. The time spent in darkness has shaped my appreciation for every moment, igniting a desire to actively seek the light.

Moving Forward with Intention

As the winter solstice arrives, I encourage you to reflect on your relationship with time and light. Though darkness can feel suffocating, remember that every sunset is followed by a sunrise. This cyclical nature of life offers endless possibilities for renewal and growth.

Embrace these waiting periods as moments that lead to deeper clarity. Commit to seeking the light in all its forms, no matter how small. Remember, whether it’s a new day or a new year, brighter moments are always on the horizon.

Together, let us value both light and darkness, for they shape our experiences and growth in profound ways. With love, Project Shine.

As always, take good care XO
